Waste as a Resource – The Key to Circular Economy

Do you want to start the new year with fresh insights and learn more about how we can empower each other? Circular economy is about reusing our resources, and knowledge of how to do this optimally is crucial.

In a world increasingly seeking innovative solutions to preserve resources, the collaboration between BI, NG Group, and Skanska has resulted in a groundbreaking continuing education program in circular economy. This initiative is not just a course but a contribution to understanding and practicing the principles of reuse and sustainability in everyday life.

Bjørn Folge, Senior KAM/Sales Manager at Norsk Gjenvinning, has shared his reflections on why the course is important. He emphasizes that knowledge about transforming waste into valuable resources is highly valuable and critical when engaging with customers who are increasingly aware of sustainability and circular economy.

The course is not just theoretical: it adopts a practical approach to implementing circular solutions, in collaboration with customers. “With two engaging instructors who complement each other with their distinct areas of expertise, perspectives, and attention to detail, participants gain a holistic understanding of how every action can contribute to a greener future,” says Folge.

Practical Learning and Interdisciplinary Collaboration
With digital teaching and practical sessions, the course offers a dynamic learning platform where participants have shared experiences and learned from one another. Folge noted the value of collaborating with representatives from Skanska, other industries, the public sector, and competing suppliers. He found this collaboration enriched his approach to sustainable solutions.

He described how group assignments, including discussions in digital breakout rooms, provided valuable experiences and learning opportunities. “It wasn’t just professional development, but also a chance to expand my network and understand how we can all play an even greater role in leading the green transition, supporting the company’s vision to be pioneers,” he said. From analyzing waste to implementing methods, Folge observed how small changes can make a big difference.

The Future is Now
With a solid collaboration between academia and practice, BI, Skanska, and NG Group have created a course that is also an inspiring vision for future sustainable practices. “It’s not just a step toward a circular economy; it’s a commitment to shaping a circular future,” says Folge.

The educational offering consists of three separate modules that together form the course series: Waste as a Resource – The Key to Circular Economy.
